Maker's of Handicraft & Handmade Products:-
Handicraft material made by the rural women of Rajasthan (India).
Women have traditionally skilled in Embroidery and Applique work
.Women are not generally involved in agricultural activities
due to patriarchal constraints that prevent them from working
away from home . The groups in the project comprise of Meghwal
and Sodha Rajput castes. While the Meghwals are known for their
expertise of Embroidery in Suf, Kharek and Pacca work the Sodha
Rajput are better with Applique work. The women are living repositories
of rich and flamboyant Embroidery traditions, belonging to Sind
now in Pakistan .Having lived there for many generations, they
brought their Embroidery tradition with them when they came to
India .Traditionally they embroidered only in their leisure tome
for family needs. When they migrated to India they stayed in
relief camp along the border for periods in those camp, in the
absence of any viable livelihood options the women undertook
embroidery for sale.
Products:-
The women Embroider mainly on cotton. The product range includes
Cushion Covers, Bags, and Purses, Tablemates, Napkins, Cell phone
Cases, Indian style ready-made garments and Christmas decorations |
